Al Pacino

Al Pacino

Why Is He Famous?

Al Pacino’s roles in The Godfather (1972), Scarface (1983), Carlito’s Way (1993), Scent of a Woman (1992), Heat (1995), and 88 Minutes (2007) put him in a very select group: He’s an Oscar winner and one of our all-time favorite actors.

Alfredo Pacino was born to Salvatore and Rose Pacino in East Harlem on April 25, 1940. At the age of 2, he quickly learned the drama of married life when his parents divorced. Al and his mother moved to his grandparents’ house, where most of his days were spent entertaining his grandmother.

At 14, Al Pacino went to the High School of the Performing Arts, but his academic record was not good enough to keep him there. Given his new situation, Al spent the next several years working odd jobs ranging from mail deliverer to theater usher. Fed up with odd jobs, Al Pacino began taking acting lessons under drama coach Charles Laughton’s wing at the Herbert Berghof Studio, until he was finally accepted to the famed Actors Studio.

With looks that have inspired countless People magazine covers, Internet shrines, and paparazzi blitzkreigs, Brad Pitt is an actor whose very name inspires drooling platitudes, more about male beauty than about acting. Following his breakthrough as the wickedly charming drifter who seduces Geena Davis and then robs her blind in Thelma & Louise (1991), Pitt became one of Hollywood’s hottest properties and spent most of the 1990s being lauded as everything from Robert Redford’s heir apparent to the Sexiest Man Alive.
